Man Utd fans think player is solution to problem position after Leeds friendly and he could save INEOS £60m
Manchester United fans think one player should be given a chance under Michael Carrick after his first-half performance against Leeds, despite not featuring in a competitive match since May 2025.
Michael Carrick’s side continued their preparation for what will be a busy campaign ahead by taking part in a pre-season friendly against archrivals Leeds United at Dublin’s Croke Park on Wednesday (August 12).
Despite rumours that he might play, having returned to training earlier this week, Marcus Rashford did not form part of the squad.
However, Carrick did name a strong starting XI which included first-team regulars Senne Lammens, Diogo Dalot, new signing Andrey Santos, Amad, Patrick Dorgu, Bryan Mbeumo, Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, while youngsters Harry Amass, Tyler Fletcher and Ayden Heaven also got the nod.

Meanwhile, Leeds fans also caught their first glimpse of club-record signing James Trafford, although it took the goalkeeper just 16 minutes to concede his first goal as Zirkzee finished a well-worked United move, sweeping home Mbeumo’s assist.
It didn’t take long for the Yorkshire side to level things, though, with Brenden Aaronson’s cool finish drawing Leeds level just before the half-hour mark.

And despite the world-class talent on show, it was left-back Amass who received the most praise during the first half of the clash.
The 19-year-old spent last season on loan at both Norwich City and Sheffield Wednesday, impressing for the latter despite their relegation to League One.
The teenager, who joined United’s academy from Watford in 2023, made his first-team debut against Leicester City on his 18th birthday.
Amass then made his first senior start under Ruben Amorim’s stewardship in April 2025, starting in a 4-1 defeat away at Newcastle.
His last competitive appearance for United came in May 2025 in a 2-0 defeat to West Ham at Old Trafford.
But after his performance against Leeds, fans think he could provide suitable back-up for Luke Shaw at left-back and even save INEOS from spending £60million on transfer target Lewis Hall.
One fan said: “The LB position is secured. We don't need another signing there anymore. Harry Amass has proven in this pre-season that he's very ready.”
Another added: “Whoever thought it was a good idea to sell Harry Amass for £6m must be a joker. I get the idea that he is not physically there yet, but he carries just too much potential to throw away for £6m.”
A third claimed: “Harry Amass is doing well. Give the lad an opportunity this season. Shaw wasn't much better than him at this age.”
While a fourth waded in: “Very impressed with Harry Amass. It’s a shame him starting this game is probably the club putting him on the market.”
A fifth commented: “Are we sure we need Lewis Hall? This Harry Amass performance.”
United face AC Milan in their final pre-season clash on August 15 before getting their Premier League campaign underway away at Hull City on August 22.
