Liverpool could hijack transfer for Man Utd's dream signing and it'd be a disaster for Ruben Amorim

United are said to be prioritising a new left-back signing in 2025.

Manchester United may have to fend off interest from Premier League rivals Liverpool if they want to sign one of their reported transfer targets in 2025.

From the onset, Ruben Amorim was keen to express his desire for a new left-back.

In fact, he made the position his 'priority' following United's 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town on November 24, according to Fabrizio Romano, who disclosed several potential transfer targets.

Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez was one of the names mentioned, although it looks more and more likely that Liverpool will make a bid for the highly-rated Hungarian full-back.

And to the surprise of nobody, Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies, who continues to be linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid, was also named on the shortlist.

The 24-year-old is out of contract at the end of the 2024/25 campaign and is able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from the start of January.

With that in mind, Bundesliga expert Christian Falk has provided an insight into Davies' current situation, and revealed that his agent "could" meet with Liverpool as they "naturally have a chance" of signing the player.

“True: Alphonso Davies is open to a potential transfer away from Bayern Munich,” Falk said in his Fact Files column. “He’s not 100% fixed on Manchester United or Real Madrid. I heard that talks with Bayern, at the moment, are on ice until January.

“His agent, Nick Huoseh, will talk with any interested top club in the new year. When Huoseh is on his tour of England, Liverpool could get a meeting with him. It would be a good club for Davies, of course, given they play a style of football that would suit him. Liverpool, naturally, have a chance."

Falk added: “I think Manchester United and Real Madrid are more concrete by comparison at this point in time. Bayern are also applying pressure to sign him up to a new contract. They’re still hopeful about making this work. So, Liverpool are still in the race, if they want him.”

Mick Brown, a former chief scout at Manchester United and Blackburn, has recently claimed that Liverpool are in the race to sign Davies.

“From what I hear, Liverpool have had scouts watching him,” he told Football Insider. “They’ll know all about him and they’ll be making their assessment on how good they think he is.

“The fact he’s available on a free is a big draw as well, for a player of his stature, because he’s very highly regarded. There is lots of interest in him from clubs across Europe, including Real Madrid, so Liverpool may not be able to compete financially with them.

"But if they’re looking that closely at him, they must be confident that they can reach an agreement.

Brown added: “There have been a few questions about Robertson so far this season as well, and a left-back is certainly on their radar, so if they can’t get this deal over the line, they’ll have to look elsewhere.”

Thoughts on the interest surrounding Davies? Let us know.
