Man Utd ‘In Talks’ Over Clever Joshua Zirkzee Swap Deal

Joshua Zirkzee could be offloaded by Manchester United as part of a swap deal proposed by a European giant.

Manchester United are reportedly in talks over a swap deal which could see Joshua Zirkzee return to Serie A following a nightmare spell.

Zirkzee has regularly been linked with an exit from United after struggling to nail down a starting spot ever since signing from Serie A side Bologna in a £36 million switch in 2024.

He stayed with United after the summer transfer window but has struggled for regular minutes under Ruben Amorim.

Zirkzee has made just five appearances in all competitions this term but is still searching for his first start, having only amassed 82 minutes of game-time.

Last month, it was reported that the Dutchman had become unhappy with his position in the squad and is looking to leave the club when the January window opens.

West Ham were discussed as a potential destination but Roma have also been credited as holding interest in Zirkzee, with a new report focusing on a potential swap.

With Zirkzee needing regular football in order to make Netherlands' 2026 World Cup, Roma are looking to bring him to the Italian capital in January.

However, as per Radio Lo Sport, via Sport Witness, the Giallorossi are prepared to send one of their players in the opposite direction.

Ukraine striker Artem Dovbyk is in a similar situation to Zirkzee, with two goals and two assists in 13 games for Roma, who are fourth in Serie A after 10 games.

He signed for Roma in 2024, following on from an excellent campaign with Girona, where he scored an impressive 24 goals to secure qualification for the Champions League.

Dovbyk bagged 17 times in his debut season with Roma but hasn't quite carried on that form this term.

Man United's Dovbyk stance

Roma have offered United the chance to sign him and give them an extra attacking option, though the claim is that the Red Devils are not interested.

"There’s not a lot of money, even for the next transfer window," journalist Enrico Camelio said.

"One name that’s been circulating is Zirkzee. He would be an incredible upgrade. Manchester doesn’t want Dovbyk and so no swap. Let’s wait.”

However, it has been reported that United are "well versed" on Roma midfielder Manu Kone and believe he could be a perfect fit for the profile of player they want in their side.

United are working on plans for 2026 and Kone, who plays in a similar system to Amorim's at Roma, is said to be a top target.
