A Manchester United player has reportedly asked to leave the club during the January transfer window.
The mood around Old Trafford and United’s Carrington training centre is likely a lot more positive this week, given the Red Devils’ 2-1 win against Liverpool at Anfield last time out.
The victory was also the first time head coach Ruben Amorim had watched his side put together successive wins since taking over from Erik ten Hag in the autumn of 2024.
United face another tough task in the Premier League this week, with the 20-time English champions set to face Brighton at Old Trafford.

However, despite the upturn in United’s fortunes in recent weeks, not everyone is pleased with their involvement - or lack of it - under Amorim.

As reported by the Mirror, out-of-favour forward Joshua Zirkzee wants to leave the club in the winter transfer window, which opens on January 1.
The Netherlands international arrived at United from Serie A side Bologna for £36m during Ten Hag’s reign back in July 2024 and has since failed to nail down a starting place.

The 24-year-old has registered just seven goals and three assists in 53 appearances for the Red Devils and appears to be way down the pecking order under Amorim, who has handed Zirkzee just three appearances so far this term.
The supposed reason for Zirkzee’s stance relates to him wanting to be involved in the 2026 World Cup with Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman having told him he needs to be playing regularly and starting games if he is to be considered by the Oranje.

The Mirror’s report claims the player would prefer to remain in the Premier League but will not rule out a move to Europe, having previously been the subject of interest from a number of Italian clubs, including Juventus. Zirkzee is currently contracted to United until the summer of 2029.
Who could sign Joshua Zirkzee?
According to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, West Ham could target Zirkzee in January in a bid to improve their forward options, with Niclas Fullkrug out injured again, while Callum Wilson has a lengthy injury record.

Crook also claimed that the Hammers could face competition from Roma if the Italian side chooses to terminate Evan Ferguson’s loan from Brighton, with the Irishman currently failing to impress at the Stadio Olimpico.
