Manchester United have reportedly made a decision in relation to Jadon Sancho’s contract, with the winger currently on loan at Aston Villa.

Sancho, 25, has not played for United since the Community Shield against Manchester City in August 2024.

During the 2024/25 campaign, he was loaned to Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea before going on to register five goals and ten assists in 41 games for the west London side, helping them win the Conference League final against Betis.

However, this was seemingly not enough to justify a permanent switch to Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea reportedly paying a penalty fee of £5 million to get out of an obligation worth £25 million, according to BBC Sport.

So, he returned to United over the summer and was immediately banished to the so-called 'Bomb Squad' alongside Tyrell Malacia, Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Antony.

Then, on transfer deadline day after a summer of uncertainty, the 25-year-old winger completed a season-long loan move to Premier League side Aston Villa.

And it’s fair to say, at least so far, his time with the West Midlands side has been disappointing, with the England international having made just six appearances while failing to register a single goal or assist.

Sancho has not started a single Premier League game for Villa, and the player was also subbed on and off in the side’s 1-0 win over City in October.

After the match, Villa head coach Emery claimed that Sancho was “not happy” after his withdrawal but maintained it was due to fitness reasons.

So, what next for Sancho and where does his poor form leave United?

Well, according to talkSPORT, United are willing to cut their losses and allow him to leave for free next summer rather than being forced to cover Sancho’s £200,000-a-week wages until his contract expires in 2027.

The 25-year-old is one of several United players currently out on loan after falling out of favour with head coach Ruben Amorim.

Rashford, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund are all currently on loan at Barcelona, Trabzonspor and Napoli, respectively.

Of course, the season is still just ten league games old, which gives Sancho at least 28 games to prove his worth ahead of next summer when he is reportedly likely to leave United for free despite having cost the Red Devils £73 million following his 2021 transfer from Borussia Dortmund.
