Andre Onana makes his feelings clear on Erik ten Hag amid Man Utd's worst-ever Premier League finish

United finished in eighth place in the Premier League this season - their lowest finish since the 1989/90 First Division season.

Andre Onana has made his feelings clear on Erik ten Hag as Manchester United manager amid the club's worst-ever Premier League finish.

United beat Brighton 2-0 on the final day of the season to finish eighth, which wasn't enough to qualify for European football via league position.

The club has not finished that low in a single Premier League season since England's top flight was restructured in 1992, with their previous worst finish arriving in 1989/90 when Sir Alex Ferguson's side were in a lowly 13th.

It has been an inconsistent season for Ten Hag and his side, who have also had to deal with a host of injury issues in key positions on the pitch.

Earlier this month, the Dutchman was unable to pick from all five of his first-choice centre-backs, while he has been without a natural left-back since January due to the absences of Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw.

Ten Hag will now hope to emulate Ferguson from the aforementioned 1989/90 season by winning the FA Cup in order to continue his work at Old Trafford.

And speaking to United legend Gary Neville on The Overlap, goalkeeper Onana - whom Ten Hag signed from Inter Milan, having managed him at Ajax, last summer - explained his thoughts on his current manager.

He said: "I don't see any difference [in the way Ten Hag manages Manchester United in comparison to Ajax]. I think he's the same guy.

"Listen, we are the same guys, we are the same players, he is the same manager that I knew in Ajax, he will not change in one or two years.

"I am not here to back him, because he's big enough [to back himself]. Last season, it was fantastic for him. So it's just a bad season.

"So for me, last season I was the best, so for this season, we have a different goalkeeper? No, it's the same guy. He's just facing difficult situations.

"We are big enough to accept the reality, because if we want to make things well, we have to accept the reality and we have to go [on the] front foot.

"So, I think he's the same manager. He's just facing different, difficult situations and hopefully things become good for him."
