Turkish media have given an early verdict on Andre Onana only two games into his loan spell at Trabzonspor away from Manchester United.

The goalkeeper has departed United for the remainder of this season after falling out of favour at Old Trafford and no longer being Ruben Amorim's first choice selection.

His last appearance for United before leaving for Trabzonspor was against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup second round, where he was culpable for both goals United conceded in a 2-2 draw before Amorim's side crashed out on penalties in one of the club's most shocking ever results.

In the Premier League this season, Amorim has favoured Altay Bayindir as his first choice selection.

And United signed Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day earlier this summer to further bolster the goalkeeping department and make it even harder for Onana to get game time.

The Cameroon international moved to Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan for the rest of the campaign, with his wages covered by the Super Lig outfit.

The £43.8m signing from Inter Milan in 2023 by former boss Erik ten Hag has made 102 appearances for United in all competitions and won the FA Cup in his time with the Old Trafford side.

It remains to be seen where Onana's long-term future lies, with the stopper having a contract at United until 2028.

The 29-year-old has only made two appearances for Trabzonspor, but has made a big impression in the early stages of his loan spell at the Super Lig side.

He earned a player of the match award on his debut in the 1-0 loss to Fenerbahce, where he came face-to-face with ex-Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson.

And on his second Trabzonspor appearance, Onana further added to his impressive start as he helped rescue a point in the match against Gaziantep after providing the assist for teammate Paul Onuachu's equaliser.

Turkish media have now given an early appraisal of Onana's start to life at Trabzonspor and he has been given rave reviews.

Turkish media outlet Fanatik reported: "Onana didn’t look out of place compared to his debut.

"After Okay [Yokuslu] was sent off and Trabzonspor were reduced to 10 men, Onana kept his team in the match with his saves.

"He cleared the ball off the post for En Nesyri’s goal and fought back as far as he could on his return.

"His performance was enough to make one forget his dark days at United."

Of Onana's performance, Taka Gazete reported: "The 29-year-old, who exuded confidence in goal, made several crucial saves throughout the match and stood in the way of the widening gap."

And Milliyet branded Onana as the 'star of the match' and added: "He played a fantastic game and his experience is so evident."
