Liverpool's starting XI could look very different if they decide to replace Arne Slot with Xabi Alonso.

The pressure is increasing on Dutchman Slot after Liverpool's latest horror show at Anfield.

The Reds, who produced a dismal display on Wednesday night, were beaten 4-1 by Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League.

As a result, Slot's performance is now under the microscope, with sections of the Reds fanbase beginning to lose faith in the 47-year-old.

Slot had a wonderful first season in charge as he led the Reds to their second-ever Premier League title.

However, things have spiralled out of control in recent weeks, having lost nine out of their last 12 matches.

With Slot under pressure, former Liverpool man and current Real Madrid boss Alonso has emerged as one of the clear favourites to take over.

During the summer transfer window, Liverpool brought in two of Alonso's former players from Bayer Leverkusen - Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz.

Both players have yet to impress at Anfield, and Alonso could be the one to unlock their potential.

In addition, Alonso could choose to bring in players of his own if he does get the Anfield job.

With rumours linking Alonso with a return to Anfield, we have decided to pick a starting XI that the Spaniard may go for.

Goalkeeper - Alisson Becker

Although he is not getting any younger, Alisson remains one of the best goalkeepers in world football and will be the No.1 for as long as he wants it.

Defence - Jeremie Frimpong, Marc Guehi, Virgil van Dijk, Alessandro Bastoni, Milos Kerkez

During his time at Leverkusen, Alonso played with three central defenders and two wing-backs, and Liverpool have the perfect full-backs for him to utilise that formation again.

Having been linked with Liverpool, Guehi and Bastoni could be the potential centre-back signings.

Midfield - Aurelien Tchouameni, Dominik Szoboszlai

Prior to moving to Madrid, Frenchman Tchouameni was linked with Liverpool, and Alonso could lure him to Anfield to be the key man in the midfield.

Attack - Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, Antoine Semenyo

Having worked with Wirtz at Leverkusen, Alonso could be the man to finally unlock the German's potential. Bournemouth star Semenyo has been linked with a move to Anfield and could play in behind striker Isak.
