Trent Alexander-Arnold could face former Liverpool teammate Andy Robertson in a swift reunion on the pitch after completing his move to Real Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold was officially unveiled as a Real player this week after becoming the club's second signing of the summer, speaking Spanish in his presentation.

The England international signed in time for the Club World Cup in the United States, with Los Blancos paying Liverpool a fee of £8.4 million so that he can feature in the tournament which kicks off on Saturday night.

Despite the animosity from some fans, Alexander-Arnold had an emotional send-off at boyhood club Liverpool as he ended a 20-year association and left people behind.

However, it has been reported that Robertson could be joining him in the Spanish capital.

The Scotland captain, who became best friends with Alexander-Arnold at Anfield, is said to be "appreciated internally" by Real's rivals Atletico.

Fabrizio Romano dropped the bombshell on Saturday morning, reporting that Robertson is Atletico's ideal candidate and ahead of AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez in their priorities.

However, the Italian acknowledged that it is "not an easy" deal even with Liverpool set to continue their summer rebuild with the capture of Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez.

An £8 million signing from Hull in 2017, Robertson has racked up 342 appearances and won two Premier Leagues, as well as the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Under Jurgen Klopp, Robertson and Alexander-Arnold reinvented what it means to be a full-back in the modern game with goals and assists from defence.

After Alexander-Arnold announced his departure from Liverpool, Robertson paid tribute to the 26-year-old and credited him for improving his overall game.

“He kept pushing me through the good years, and he's made a choice," Robertson said on Sky Sports.

"I think his legacy at the club is there for everyone to see. The trophies he's won, the moments he's had in history, will always be there.

“It is of course, an emotional decision, and it's not been an easy one. He's made the decision, and it's not nice to see a friend get booed, but as I said, we can't tell people how to act.

"I can tell you how I feel about, I'm extremely proud of what he's done for the club. I love him as a friend and player and he will be missed for me as one of my best friends in the game.”
