Liverpool fans have new theory after seeing what Trent Alexander-Arnold's posted on Instagram following Leicester winner

The Liverpool right-back scored a left-footed half volley to secure all three points against Leicester at the King Power on Sunday.

Liverpool supporters have offered a new theory on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future after the right-back scored the winning goal in their 1-0 victory against Leicester City on Sunday.

Alexander-Arnold, 26, was introduced in the second half of proceedings, marking his first appearance since he picked up an ankle issue against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 on March 11.

And it took just five minutes for the Liverpudlian to make an impact when he took full advantage of a loose ball by smashing it past Leicester's keeper Mads Hermansen.

He quickly ran towards the Liverpool supporters gathered inside the away section, before he took off his shirt in a show of pure emotion.

Of course, for much of this season, Alexander-Arnold’s future has been the subject of widespread media attention, with the right-back heavily linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid upon the expiration of his Liverpool contract in June.

Shortly after Liverpool's win yesterday, he was directly asked whether he will leave Liverpool by Sky Sports' Patrick Davidson, to which Alexander-Arnold replied: "Look, obviously, like I've said all season, I am not going to speak on my situation, I am not going to go into details but these days like today are always special: scoring goals, winning games, being close to winning titles and being in title races, they are special moments that will live for me forever. I am glad to be a part of them."

He added: "To do it for the fans here is a very special moment. As much as we do it for ourselves and our family, we do it for the fans as well, they are the ones who travel to the games and spend their money, so it is the least they deserve to see us give 100% on the pitch and win games.

"So to see us so close, some of us, to a second league title and for others a first, especially in front of fans, which is what we've been missing, is very special. Virgil pushed me to the front to soak it in, get up close and personal. The fans have been amazing again this season, they have pushed us every game to the final minutes and they have done that again today to help us win the game."

Then, later in the evening, the right-back posted a series of photographs of him celebrating his goal to his Instagram account, which boasts 12,000,000 followers.

And fans in the comments section were quick to issue a new theory about the player.

Some supporters noticed that Trent's caption "Special Moments" was the exact same as the caption Virgil van Dijk used when he posted on Instagram following the announcement that he had signed a new deal at the club on April 17.

One said: "I’m going crazy bro look at these captions."

Another added: "Look at the photo. Tsimikas left hand pointing at Trent whilst his right hand clearly showing five fingers indicating a 5 year extension."

As a third explained: "You’ve give me hope again ffs means it’ll hurt more now when he leaves at end of season."
