Piers Morgan slammed for 'nasty' comment about Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool win Carabao Cup

Morgan was called out.

Piers Morgan has been criticised by fans for a comment aimed at Jurgen Klopp following Liverpool's win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final.

After what was a relatively end-to-end contest for much of the 90 minutes between the two sides, Liverpool were far stronger in extra time and Virgil van Dijk headed in from a corner in the 118th minute to secure a 1-0 win.

The Reds had earlier seen another Van Dijk controversially ruled out for offside, while many felt Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo was lucky to avoid at least a yellow card for a game-ending tackle on Ryan Gravenberch.

Liverpool ended the game with five players under the age of 21 on the pitch, with Klopp's squad hugely depleted by injuries.

But all played a part in one of the most memorable cup final victories in Reds history - with Klopp even calling it 'the most special trophy I have ever won'.

It was no surprise, therefore, that the German boss was visibly emotional at full-time. However, he was quickly called out by Arsenal fan Morgan.

He wrote: "If winning the Carabao Cup makes you cry, it's definitely time to move on."

Unsurprisingly, Liverpool supporters - and, in fact, football fans from other clubs - were not too impressed with Morgan's comment.

One wrote: "There is absolutely no need to be nasty Piers, that is poor."

Another said: "Arsenal cannot even make it to the final, let alone win."

A third clarified: "C'mon Piers, you know exactly why Klopp is all teary-eyed. This is the start of the final leg for Klopp and Liverpool. It's started well for them and could be historic by season's end."

A fourth wrote: "Let's see how many Arteta wins by end of season..."

And a fifth fan, who watched Birmingham win the League Cup at Wembley in 2011, added: "Best day of my life being at Wembley watching us win the League Cup. The big teams' fans take it for granted."
