Michael Owen has picked out one reason why Liverpool are not firing on all cylinders after their dismal draw against Leeds United.

On Thursday evening, Liverpool welcomed Leeds to Anfield, looking to make it four wins in a row in the Premier League.

Arne Slot's men had picked up a little bit of momentum in the last few weeks after beating the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, against Leeds, Liverpool were desperately poor as they were held to a 0-0 draw.

During what was a worrying second half, the Reds only mustered one shot on target, an effort from outside the penalty area courtesy of Dominik Szoboszlai.

Speaking after the match, ex-Liverpool and England striker Owen stated that the Reds are missing Mohamed Salah, who is currently on AFCON duty with Egypt.

Over the last few weeks, Salah's future has been a major talking point, especially after his explosive interview following Slot's decision to bench him for the first fixture against Leeds at Elland Road.

Salah was dropped for the Champions League match against Inter Milan before returning with an assist vs Brighton.

Speaking about Salah on Thursday night, Owen said on Premier League Productions: "People who were saying Mo Salah should’ve been dropped or rested, or sold or finished. I mean, that’s them without Mo Salah, he is a difference maker.

"Even when he's not playing well, he can still score goals, and all is forgiven, Mo I suppose, come back!"

Former Liverpool winger Steve McManaman then added: "There is just no structure when he's not there. Everybody was just playing anywhere tonight.

"You know, we had three right backs this evening, it was (Conor) Bradley and then it was (Jeremie) Frimpong and then it was (Dominik) Szoboszlai."

Liverpool will be back in Premier League action this weekend when they take on Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon.
