Liverpool's place in the Premier League net spend table will see a significant change once they wrap up a British-record deal for Bayer Leverkusen and Germany star Florian Wirtz.

Having already snapped up his teammate Jeremie Frimpong, the Reds have been desperately trying to seal a move for the 22-year-old and now appear to heading towards an official announcement.

Though Wirtz had decided to pick Liverpool some time ago, Liverpool and Leverkusen still needed to come to an agreement on a fee and according to Fabrizio Romano, that has now happened.

On Tuesday, the Italian said that Liverpool had verbally agreed a deal in principle which will see them pay a total of €150 million, with performance-related add-ons factored in.

It will be the highest fee Liverpool have ever paid for a signing and a record sum in the Premier League, eclipsing the £115 million Chelsea paid to land Moises Caicedo in August 2023.

The move represents a major statement of intent from the reigning Premier League champions and sees them climb three places in the spending charts.

According to Transfer Markt, once the Wirtz deal is official, Liverpool will have spent £592.19 million on new recruits in the past five years.

But they have also been savvy in bringing in money from player sales, totalling £241.74 million to end up with a net spend of £350.45 million.

Chelsea have splashed out a whopping £1.52 billion in that time, with Manchester United and Manchester City in the top three big for spenders.

Of the top 10, it is Wolves who have the lowest net spend with outgoings and income taken into account - though Liverpool are fourth on the net spend list with £350 million.

Net spend list in full:

1.Chelsea - spent £1.52 billion - received £819.5 million - net spend £700.5 million
