Jurgen Klopp questions one of his substitutions during Liverpool vs Spurs

Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp questioned one of his own substitutions after Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

After failing to win their last two Premier League matches, Liverpool welcomed Spurs to Anfield looking to give Klopp, who will be leaving the club in the summer, the best send-off.

With 60 minutes on the clock, it looked like Liverpool were easing to a huge victory after goals from Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott made it 4-0.

However, strikes from Richarlison and Son Heung Min made things interesting but the Reds eventually held on for a 4-2 victory.

During the match, Klopp used all five of his available substitutions as he brought on Joe Gomez, Stefan Bajcetic, Ryan Gravenberch, Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Nunez was heavily criticised by Liverpool fans on social media after yet another poor cameo but Klopp questioned his own decision to bring on 19-year-old midfielder Bajcetic, who last played in the Premier League back in March 2023.

He said: “The changes we made, would I do exactly the same again? I’m not sure! But Macca played all the time, going up and down, up and down; [with] Wataru, you have Stefan who looks really good in training.

“But today obviously you saw, he comes on and it’s like you arrive on the motorway with your bicycle. It takes then time again to adapt to it, first ball not great, then you go down [a goal], all of a sudden organisation was gone.”

Klopp continued: “That’s not helpful. Then they were then flying. We had that game before [in last season’s 4-3], a similar game before, they are just really good.

“But we controlled them for so long, that’s obviously most important. Somebody else can sort that next season!”

Liverpool will be back in Premier League action next Monday when they take on Aston Villa at Villa Park.
