Ibrahima Konate has spoken out with a damning statement shortly after Liverpool officially confirmed he would be leaving the club.
Five years after his arrival from RB Leipzig for £36m in the summer of 2021, Liverpool defender Konate will leave the club following the expiration of his contract in June.
Despite the Frenchman having a difficult start to the 2025/26 season, negotiations to extend his deal were underway throughout the campaign, with both sides believed to be eager to find an agreement.
However, it's now been confirmed that Konate and Liverpool have failed to agree terms for a new contract, with the club releasing an official statement on the matter.

"Liverpool FC can confirm Ibrahima Konate is set to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer," the club wrote.
"Konate will depart with our gratitude and appreciation for the contribution he made and everyone at the club wishes him the best for the future."
Across his Liverpool career, Konate made 183 appearances in all competitions and played a key role in the club winning their 20th Premier League title in the 2024/25 season.
The news came as a major surprise and a disappointment to many fans who had hoped to see the 27-year-old stay at Anfield, and it appears that Konate himself shares these feelings as he released his own statement reacting to the news.
"I am deeply saddened that I didn't get the chance to see goodbye to all of you at the last game. At that moment, I didn't know it would be my final time wearing this shirt in front of you," Konate wrote on Instagram.
Konate's comments appear to suggest that even he was blindsided by the decision not to renew his contract, causing further frustrations amongst the fanbase.

Elsewhere in his statement, he added: "Five years ago, I arrived as a young player with big dreams. Today, I leave with memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
“Representing this club has been an honour. We have shared incredible moments together… with highs and lows, trophies, challenges, lifelong friendships, and heartbreaking moments that will stay with us forever, none more painful than losing our brother Diogo.
“Losing my father this year was one of the hardest periods of my life, but even through hardship, my commitment to this club never changed. During the toughest moments, I gave everything I had for this badge.
“To my teammates, coaches, staff and everyone behind the scenes, thank you for helping me grow every single day.
“And to the supporters… thank you for your love, your energy, and your incredible support. Anfield is truly a special place, and playing in front of you was something I never took for granted.
"From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything I love you all and will carry Liverpool with me wherever I go.
"This isn’t an easy goodbye, but it’s time for a new challenge and a new chapter. See you again soon, Inshallah. YNWA”.
Who will replace Konate at Liverpool?
With Liverpool also searching for a new manager to replace Arne Slot after confirming that the former boss had been sacked, it is unlikely that a new centre back will be signed in the immediate future.
Instead, it is perhaps more likely that Liverpool will wait until after the World Cup this summer to further assess their options.
One name that has been heavily linked with Liverpool since news of Konate's departure was confirmed is academy graduate Jarell Quansah, who was sold to Bayer Leverkusen last summer.
The 23-year-old barely played during Slot's first season in charge at Anfield, but he could now return with the deal for his £35million exit reportedly including a buy back clause of around £70million this summer, with the figure would then drop to around £50m from the summer of 2027.
However, it has also been suggested that, following the news that Joe Gomez would remain at the club next season, Liverpool could look to young defender Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni to take Konate's place in the squad.
