Hugo Ekitike Sets Bizarre Liverpool Record Which May Never Be Broken

Hugo Ekitike has set the most unusual Liverpool record that may not be beaten in the future, it has emerged.

Ekitike joined the Reds from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer for a fee of £69 million, penning a six-year contract with the Premier League champions.

But while his fellow Bundesliga exports Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong have struggled thus far, Ekitike has been in fine form for Arne Slot's men and found the net on six occasions.

He got off the mark straight away on his debut against Crystal Palace before finding the net on his Premier League bow against Bournemouth at Anfield.

Following on from a huge Champions League victory over Real Madrid, Ekitike will be looking to continue his heroics in front of goal in a huge clash with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

But prior that fixture, social media users have highlighted the rare record Ekitike has already broken in his new environment.

As aforementioned, Ekitike's Liverpool tally stands at an impressive six in 15 appearances in all competitions. And remarkably, as per Owen Collins on X, all six of his goals have been scored on different days.

The previous record of five was jointly held by Ray Houghton and Dejan Lovren but Ekitike has bagged on every weekday of the week so far - with only Thursday needing to be ticked off.

Ektike first scored on a Sunday and then bagged on Friday and Monday fixtures, before getting a Saturday goal under his belt in the Merseyside derby victory over Everton.

He scored on a Tuesday against Southampton in what proved to be an infamous strike as he was sent off for removing his shirt and being shown a second yellow card for his celebration.

However, as revealed by Michael Reid, Opta's football data editor, the record could be extended in the near future.

At the moment, Liverpool's next scheduled Thursday fixture is on January 1 when they host Leeds United in a New Year's Day clash at Anfield.

Ekitike has made a strong start to life on Merseyside and former Reds forward Roberto Firmino has been impressed by what he has seen from Ekitike, who be believes has the capacity to become a "historic" player in the future.

|They've already proved that they're top-class players,” Firmino said of Ekitike and £125 million record signing Alexander Isak.

“I didn't know Ekitike before he joined Frankfurt.

“He's already shown his potential with goals and performances and seems to have a lot of desire to become a historic player for the club.

"I wish them both the best. It's only the beginning of their time at Liverpool."
