A Liverpool player decided to take down his Instagram story about Trent Alexander-Arnold after the win over Real Madrid.

Having put an end to their disappointing run of form with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa, Liverpool welcomed European rivals Real Madrid to Anfield for a Champions League clash.

After a closely contested first half, the hosts secured all three points thanks to a winning header from Alexis Mac Allister and impressive defensive performances from Andrew Robertson and Conor Bradley.

Ahead of the match, much of the discussion centred around the controversial return of Trent Alexander-Arnold after the boyhood Liverpool fan left the Reds to join Real Madrid for £10million in late May, ahead of his contract expiring a month later.

Given the nature of his Liverpool exit, many fans made it clear that they were not going to welcome the defender back to Anfield, as one player later found out.

Throughout his time at Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold enjoyed a close relationship with several of his teammates, particularly with fellow Liverpool local and academy graduate Curtis Jones.

Therefore, before Tuesday's match Jones and Alexander-Arnold took the chance to catch up with each other, with the Liverpool midfielder sharing a photo of the pair laughing together before kick-off on his instagram story.

Unsurprisingly, the photo was not received well with Liverpool fans who immediately made their feelings about Jones' post known on social media.

Reacting to the post, one fan wrote: "Every time I start warming to him, he does something to p*** me off. Smh."

While another commented: "This guy can never read the room man."

With one after the result suggesting: "Am I the only one that sees this as trolling."

The backlash to the post ultimately led to Jones taking it off of his Instagram story.

Although Jones was clearly happy to see his former teammates return to Anfield, it appears this may not have been the case for everyone in the Liverpool squad.

After scoring the winning goal in the match, fans noticed that Mac Allister had decided to run over to the Real Madrid bench while copying Trent’s celebration by putting one finger horizontally across two fingers pointing down.

However, some fans have suggested that the celebration could instead be for his daughter Alaia.
