Liverpool fans have been reacting on social media after seeing what Florian Wirtz did when asked about his potential move to Anfield.

After sealing the signing of full-back Jeremie Frimpong, the Reds have switched their attention to the likes of Wirtz and Milos Kerkez as they look to add further quality to Arne Slot's squad.

Over the last few weeks, it has been widely reported that the 22-year-old German has decided to join Liverpool over Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

On Wednesday night, Wirtz started for Germany as they took on Portugal in the UEFA Nations League semi-final.

The Bayer Leverkusen star opened the scoring with a fine header in the 48th minute, but goals from Francisco Conceicao and Cristiano Ronaldo sealed a 2-1 win for Portugal.

As a result, Ronaldo and his teammates will take on either Spain or France in Sunday's final.

After the match, as the players walked through the mixed zone, Wirtz was asked: "Excited for Liverpool, Florian?"

In response, the 22-year-old appeared to nod his head but did not say a single word.

Reacting on social media, one fan said: "That's how I would acknowledge the question it's confirmation to me."

Another tweeted: "This is what we needed to calm the nerves."

A third fan added: "Nice little Nod there. Love to see it."

Someone else wrote: "He could’ve easily pretended he didn’t hear you and walked off…. Give him the contract immediately."

Ahead of the match, Germany captain and Bayern star Joshua Kimmich was asked about Wirtz's potential transfer.

The full-back appeared to confirm that Wirtz had rejected a move to Bayern in favour of a move to Merseyside.

He said: "He will have his reasons for making this decision. I hope it's the right path for him. As a Bayern player, I would have naturally wanted him to come to us."

A couple of weeks agao, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano wrote on social media: "Florian Wirtz has informed Bayer Leverkusen of his desire to join Liverpool. The contract agreement is done, sealed as Wirtz only wants Liverpool move.

"Club to club talks already underway as revealed earlier, #LFC are confident to get the deal DONE SOON. Not a long saga."

Since then, it has been reported that Liverpool had made an offer worth €130 million.

The Athletic's David Ornstein wrote: "Liverpool submit offer to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen worth up to €130m in total. This is an improved second bid + figure a top-end amount - comprising fixed fee & potential add-ons. 22yo #Bayer04 playmaker keen to join #LFC @TheAthleticFC."
