Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has provided a huge new update on Alexander Isak amid rumours Liverpool are preparing a world record offer.

Despite securing costly deals for Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong, it appears that Liverpool are not yet done in the transfer market.

After agreeing to sell star forward Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich for a reported fee of £65.5million, Liverpool look eager to add another attacker to their ranks, with Newcastle United's Isak viewed as the dream signing.

Reports have claimed that the Reds are prepared to pay a world-record fee of around £130m for the Sweden international, who has left Newcastle's pre-season camp to try and help secure the move to Anfield.

Ahead of their pre-season match against the K-League XI, Howe spoke with the media during a press conference in Seoul on Tuesday afternoon.

Of course, during the press conference, Howe was asked to comment on the latest rumours about Isak's future, leading to the manager doubling down on the club's claim that things are still mostly under their control.

He said: "He is still our player. He’s contracted to us.

"We, to a degree, control what is next for him. I would love to believe all possibilities are still available to us.

"My wish is that he stays, but that’s not in my full control.

"We have not received a formal offer for Alex, from any club. My wish is he stays and we see him playing again next year."

Later in the press conference, the Magpies boss also also confirmed that he is yet to speak with club officials about the ongoing saga regarding Isak's future.

He added: "No, I haven’t. Mainly for the fact I’ve been travelling and today we’ve been working on the training for this afternoon.

"With these trips, they are always so intense. Of course, I’m in contact with the people I need to be in contact with back at home, but it’s very minimal contact when you’re away."
