The transfer saga of Rodrygo has taken a stunning twist as a shock club has asked Real Madrid for permission to speak to the player.

Rodrygo has attracted plenty of interest this summer, with several clubs keeping tabs on his situation.

Several Premier League clubs have expressed an interest in signing the star winger, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

But, according to a fresh report from Spanish outlet AS, Liverpool and Chelsea have pulled out of the race to sign Rodrygo.

Liverpool are pursuing a blockbuster move for Newcastle United's Alexander Isak, while Chelsea are pushing to sign Xavi Simons.

That's despite Arne Slot sanctioning the sale of Luis Diaz, who is set to sign for Bayern Munich.

Speaking before Liverpool struck a deal with Bayern for Diaz, James Pearce wrote: "Rodrygo currently not viewed as a possible replacement if Diaz does go. No talks."

But Rodrygo could still end up in the Premier League as the report claims Tottenham have asked Real for permission to speak to the 24-year-old.

Spurs want him to be the 'crown jewel' of Thomas Frank's new project following his managerial appointment.

Real value Rodrygo at a whopping €90 million (£78 million), with Spurs looking to negotiate a deal.

Spurs view Rodrygo as the club's 'new spearhead' given his age and potential - and the perfect replacement for Son Heung-min, who is on the verge of leaving the North London outfit.

It appears Spurs face competition from Arsenal, who are big admirers of Rodrygo.

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta is a big fan, but the cash flow has dwindled following the signing of Viktor Gyokeres, who completed his move to the Emirates from Sporting CP for an initial £55 million.

However, per the report, Spurs are the only club in a position to pursue the signing.

Rodrygo's mind, though, is still in Madrid, according to the report, but he won't object to his sale as long as he's allowed to decide where he goes.
