Liverpool to Make January Move for Player They've Wanted Since 2022

The player in question previously endured an unsuccessful spell in the Premier League but has since impressed with a Champions League club.

Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing a highly rated winger in January, but will compete with Juventus for the star’s signature.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool side have endured a torrid start to their Premier League title defence.

After Sunday’s 3-0 defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad, the Reds sit eighth in the league, having lost five and won six of their opening 11 games, leaving them eight points behind leaders Arsenal.

Slot’s job appears to be safe for now, given the fact that he guided the side to the 2024/25 Premier League title, but after a summer which involved a record spend of £424 million - on Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giovanni Leoni, Armin Pecsi, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Florian Wirtz – he will, no doubt, be hoping his side’s fortunes improve after the international break.

Of course, despite landing the aforementioned players, Liverpool still missed out on Crystal Palace and England centre-back Marc Guehi after a proposed deal fell through near the end of the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old is also reportedly of interest to Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, with Oliver Glasner revealing that Guehi will not sign a new contract at the club and will leave when his contract expires in 2026.

Whether Liverpool move for the centre-back in January remains to be seen, but the Reds will likely seek to improve their squad in the winter window.

As reported by Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool will compete with Juventus for soon-to-be-out-of-contract Bayern and Germany winger Serge Gnabry.

Gnabry, 30, began his career in England with Arsenal before leaving the Gunners for Werder Bremen in 2016, following an unsuccessful loan spell at West Bromwich Albion.

However, since joining Bayern in 2017, the winger has significantly improved, with his contributions helping the Bavarians win six Bundesliga titles and one UEFA Champions League, just to name a few of his many accolades.

Gnabry, who can also play as a second striker, is out of contract in June 2026, meaning he can sign a pre-contract agreement with another club when his contract has six months or less to run.

According to Capology, the Germany international reportedly earns €362,885 (£320,824) per week, making him Bayern’s fourth-highest earner behind Harry Kane, Manuel Neuer, and Joshua Kimmich.

The same amount would make him Liverpool’s third-highest earner behind Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Speaking to CBS Sports back in 2020, Gnabry spoke warmly of Arsenal and said the Gunners would be “the favourite” if he were to return to the Premier League. The 30-year-old was previously linked with Liverpool after Sadio Mane left for Bayern in 2022.
