A respected journalist with connections at Newcastle United has issued a major update about Liverpool's pursuit of striker Alexander Isak.
Liverpool have spent heavily in the summer transfer window to strengthen the squad ahead of their Premier League title defence.
Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike and Milos Kerkez are the Reds' headline signings of the summer so far and the addition of Isak would be a massive statement of intent, not to mention supplying a formidable striker to add to Arne Slot's already lethal attack.

The Newcastle striker has made his intentions clear, making himself unavailable for the Magpies' tour in Asia in order to 'explore other opportunities' with a view to a move away from Tyneside.
On Thursday, it emerged that the Sweden international is training alone at former club Real Sociedad.
Journalist Keith Downie reported on Wednesday that the 25-year-old had not been at Newcastle's training ground and clarified the situation around Isak's mooted transfer to Anfield.
"I fully expect if Liverpool come to the table and offer a big offer, that the deal will get done," said Downie in a YouTube video.

"It's just whether Liverpool can come up with the funds or not. I know Newcastle have set the fee at £150 [million] and that's what they want.
"I think they'll end up doing a deal for around about £135 [million], something like that, which still smashes the Premier League record."
Even by the standards of Liverpool's investment this summer, £135 million would be an extremely punchy fee to throw at a league rival.

Isak is a known quantity with Premier League experience. He's scored 54 league goals in 86 appearances since joining the Magpies in 2022 and his exceptional 2024-25 season fired Eddie Howe's team back into the Champions League, with their first major trophy for 70 years thrown in for good measure.
But another tilt at Europe's premier club competition wasn't enough for Isak to shrug off outside interest and, in Downie's words, has had his head turned.
The striker proved himself one of the game's elite goalscorers, netting at a faster rate last season than even an in-form Mohamed Salah.
If the Reds get their man, they're going to take some toppling next term.
