Real Madrid fans make Trent Alexander-Arnold confession as ex-Liverpool star makes debut during Club World Cup

Real Madrid fans have spoken out following Trent Alexander-Arnold's Real Madrid debut at the Club World Cup.

Last weekend, the Club World Cup got underway in the USA for the first year of the brand new format, with several of the biggest teams in football competing.

Perhaps the most exciting part of the competition for fans was getting to see several new signings in action ahead of the start of the 2025/26 season.

Manchester City pair Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders made their club debuts during the opening days of the competition, but undoubtedly the biggest name to make their first appearance for a new club was Alexander-Arnold.

Following his controversial transfer, the former Liverpool star stepped onto the pitch as a Real Madrid player during their opening fixture against Al Hilal, and fans of the La Liga side have spoken out to give their thoughts on his debut.

Rumours of Alexander-Arnold's 'dream' move to Real Madrid first emerged ahead of the 2024/25 season ahead of his Liverpool contract expiring this summer.

Ultimately, the 26-year-old confirmed that he would be leaving his boyhood club in May and just weeks later, Real Madrid decided to pay Liverpool £10million to sign the defender early so that he could play during the Club World Cup.

In his first match as a Real Madrid player, Alexander-Arnold clearly struggled to find his feet, as his mistake led to Al Hilal taking the lead in the match, only for it to be flagged for offside.

Across the first half, Trent lost more duels than any other player on the pitch, and it's safe to say Real Madrid fans were not impressed

Reacting to his performance on social media platform X, one Real Madrid fan admitted: "I see what Liverpool fans are saying about Trent’s defending in literally the first 5 mins!"

While another added: "Trent Alexander Arnold's debut hasn't been great, to be honest. He's possibly better than what Lucas Vazquez could do, but I don't think he's a Real Madrid-level signing.

And one wrote: "First impressions of Trent in Real Madrid shirt… off the ball needs a lot of work. His inverted runs mean Rodrygo is essentially having to play RWB to give the team ‘deep width’ in build up.

"Not tracking back quick enough either and causing holes in the backline.

While a Liverpool fan joked: "Trent looks like an even worse defender than Alexander-Arnold was."

Alexander-Arnold will be back in action for Real Madrid as they face Mexican side Pachuca in their second Club World Cup fixture on Sunday evening in Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium.
