Jurgen Klopp in line for shock role after Liverpool exit with 'talk increasing' of surprise move

Jurgen Klopp is in line for a surprising role once he leaves Liverpool, it has been claimed.

In January, Klopp stunned the football world when he announced he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, saying he was "running out of energy".

The German admitted at the time: "It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now.

“I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again."

Since the announcement, Liverpool have gone on to win the Carabao Cup, though hopes of the Merseyside club claiming a Premier League crown in the German’s final season have diminished after they recorded just one win from their past four league games.

With Klopp expected to take a year away from the game, the Independent has alleged that there is "increasing talk" at Borussia Dortmund that the club may bring the German back as head of football in 2025.

Klopp made his name at Mainz, leading them to the Bundesliga for the first time in 2004, while his spell as Dortmund boss between 2008 and 2015 entrenched his status as one of the world’s best managers.

Dortmund won the Bundesliga under Klopp in 2011 and 2012, as well as reaching the 2013 Champions League final.

On his future, Klopp said back in January: "Let's squeeze everything out of this season and have another thing to smile about when we look back in the future.

"If you ask me, 'Will you ever work as a manager again?' I would say now, ‘No.’

"But I don't know obviously how that will feel because I never had the situation.

"What I know definitely - I will never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool, 100 per cent. That's not possible."
