Having been promoted from the National League last season, Wrexham could seal a place in League One this weekend.

Should they claim a victory over bottom side Forest Green, and results elsewhere work in their favour, they would earn their first back-to-back promotions in their 159-year history.

On Tuesday, the Welsh outfit secured an emphatic 4-1 win over Crawley Town. Ryan Barnett and Paul Mullin netted in the first half before Andy Cannon put the result beyond doubt 14 minutes from time.

Mullin went on to claim his second goal of the night before Klaidi Lolos scored an injury-time consolation for Crawley.

The result means Wrexham are now second in the table, guaranteed at least a play-off spot and five points clear of MK Dons in fourth.

They will get promoted on Saturday should they beat Forest Green and Mk Dons and Barrow fail to win against Mansfield Town and Gillingham respectively on the same day.

While Wrexham owners and red carpet stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were not in attendance for the 4-1 rout of Crawley, United defender Maguire made an appearance to support his brother Laurence, who was playing for the away side.

After the game Wrexham assistant manager Steve Parkin said: "We worked long and hard on Crawley about how good they are away from home, we certainly respected the players they've got and the way they've been playing.

"We thought we would create chances on the break, you have to be clinical, and it was a really clinical performance I thought.

"I'm delighted for the players as a whole. We just need to make sure that we recover, rest up and be ready to go for the weekend."

Meanwhile, Crawley Town boss Scott Lindsey said: "I'm just disappointed with the outcome, but it won't define our season. We've been fantastic of late, it's a tough place to come.

"We found it difficult, certainly in four moments for sure. We never really asked many questions of them, but it is what it is, we'll get ready for the next game."
