Denmark's Joachim Andersen gave a furious post-match interview after extra-time goals from Kieran Tierney and Kenny McLean handed Scotland a place at the 2026 World Cup.

Scotland booked their spot at next summer's tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada with a 4-2 win over Denmark, who topped Group C coming into Tuesday night's clash at Hampden Park.

But Brian Riemer's side will now enter the play-offs, where they will join Italy, Turkey and Ukraine in pot one.

It was an evening of heartbreak for the Danes, who were on the verge of securing automatic qualification until Kieran Tierney made it 3-2 with a stunning strike in the third minute of stoppage time.

And moments later, Norwich City's Kenny McLean scored from the halfway line to seal Scotland's first men's World Cup appearance since 1998.

Speaking in his post-match interview with Danish outlet TV 2 Sport, a frustrated Joachim Andersen was almost inconsolable as he reflected on a devastating night at Hampden Park.

The 29-year-old centre-back, who plays his club football for Premier League side Fulham, went on to describe Scott McTominay's outrageous overhead kick opener in the third minute as a "freak goal".

He also claimed the Napoli midfielder will "never score a goal like that again in his career" before ruing Rasmus Kristensen's controversial red card.

"I'm incredibly sad," said Andersen. "The results we've delivered in the last two games are laughable. I'm just disappointed. I'm disappointed. I think we played a good game. They score a freak goal. He'll never score a goal like that again in his career.

"Of course it's difficult when we get the red card," he added. "And we fall behind and come back. And then we make such stupid mistakes. That should never happen. I don't know what to say. It's just disappointing and f------g ridiculous."

Scotland manager Steve Clarke, meanwhile, described McTominay's goal as "the best overhead kick I've ever seen".

Denmark star admits they don't deserve to qualify for World Cup

Denmark blew their chance of securing an automatic qualification spot with a 2-2 draw against Belarus on Saturday.

After the full-time whistle, goalscorer Gustav Isaksen admitted his side don't deserve to qualify for next summer's tournament, labelling the draw with Belarus as a "disaster".

“It’s so disappointing," he said. "It’s a disaster. We give them so many chances, I don’t know what we’re doing.

"At 1-1, we got nervous and stopped defending altogether. Oh, it hurts right now. I said at the press conference before the game that if we don’t beat Belarus, we don’t deserve to go to the World Cup."

Isaksen added: “I don’t think we underestimated them, but it’s crazy to stand here without having won.”
