England supporters spotted a glaring error in Thomas Tuchel’s 35-man squad announcement ahead of the March internationals.

Having already secured their participation at this summer’s FIFA World Cup, England are set to play two friendlies during the March international break, with Tuchel’s side facing Uruguay and Japan on 27 and 31 March respectively.

On Friday (20 March), the 35-man squad was announced for the fixtures, with several notable names missing out on selection, including Luke Shaw and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Meanwhile, Harry Maguire, Kobbie Mainoo and Lewis Hall regained their places in the squad, with 13 new players included who were not involved in Tuchel’s previous squad in November.

Everton midfielder James Garner and Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele were among the surprise inclusions.

Stalwarts such as Jordan Pickford, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka were also selected, alongside Manchester City centre-back Marc Guehi; however, whoever put together the official squad announcement on England’s website failed to recognise that the defender is no longer a Crystal Palace player, with the club’s name still listed next to Guehi.

Fans were quick to react to the blunder on social media.

One said: “I didn’t know Marc Guehi still plays for Palace.”

Another added: “Isn’t Marc Guehi with Manchester City now?”

A third claimed: “Why am I seeing Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace)?”

Of course, 25-year-old Guehi signed for Man City on an initial £20 million deal during the January transfer window, penning a five-year contract at the Etihad. The England international has since featured 11 times for Pep Guardiola’s side, scoring once.

Speaking about the decision to name 35 players in his squad, Tuchel said: "We decided to divide it into basically two camps almost, so we bring players in that we haven’t seen who haven’t played so much to open up the picture, and the competition for plane tickets to the US.

“Then from Friday and Saturday, a group of players will come into camp – ten or eleven players who get a rest before and we will then go with a new group and mix of players into the match against Japan.”

England 35-man squad for friendlies against Uruguay and Japan:

Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace), Jordan Pickford (Everton), James Trafford (Manchester City), Aaron Ramsdale (Newcastle United), Jason Steele (Brighton & Hove Albion)

Defenders: Dan Burn (Newcastle United), Marc Guehi (Manchester City), Lewis Hall (Newcastle United), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Tino Livramento (Newcastle United), Harry Maguire (Manchester United), Nico O'Reilly (Manchester City), Jarell Quansah (Bayer Leverkusen), Djed Spence (Tottenham Hotspur), John Stones (Manchester City), Fikayo Tomori (AC Milan)

Midfielders: Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest), Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), James Garner (Everton), Jordan Henderson (Brentford), Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace)

Forwards: Jarrod Bowen (West Ham United), Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Leeds United), Eberechi Eze (Arsenal), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Noni Madueke (Arsenal), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Marcus Rashford (Barcelona, loan from Manchester United), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Dominic Solanke (Tottenham Hotspur)
