Scott McTominay wanted by trio of Premier League clubs as midfielder 'rules out' transfer that looked nailed on

McTominay has been heavily linked with a move away from Man Utd this summer.

A trio of Premier League clubs have expressed an interest in signing Scott McTominay from Manchester United.

Speculation over McTominay's future at Old Trafford has been rife all summer. A number of clubs continue to be linked, including Serie A side Napoli.

In fact, the Italian outfit made contact with United in an attempt to sign the midfielder, according to ESPN, who said the Scotland international was ‘aware' of Napoli’s interest.

The report, published earlier this week, also claimed United would be looking for a permanent deal rather than a loan as they valued him at between £25 million and £30 million.

But now, it appears McTominay is leaning towards a Premier League stay after 'giving some thought' to the idea of playing in Italy.

That's according to The Sun, who have named three Premier League clubs who are said to be tracking the midfielder's situation.

Fulham are perhaps the most unsurprising team to be linked. United turned down a £20 million bid from the Cottagers for their academy graduate as they were holding out for more.

Another club reportedly interested are Crystal Palace, who have plenty of cash to spend following the £47.4 million departure of Michael Olise to Bayern Munich.

And after already spending upwards of £100 million this transfer window, Brighton are also huge admirers as they look to add more firepower in the centre of their midfield.

The report adds that United insiders are 'widely expecting him to leave in the coming days', with United being 'open-minded' to letting him leave this summer.

United boss Erik ten Hag said in July that he had no intention of selling the midfielder after the 27-year-old scored 10 goals in 43 appearances last season.

“We have very good players so there will always be an interest from other clubs," he said. "When you score 10 goals in a season and also perform very good for Scotland, then there will be an interest.

"But we want to keep him because he is a very important player for our squad. What he can contribute, as we saw last season once we had our sixes available, he could play in a more advanced role and he is a highly interesting player for our team.”
