Chelsea have reportedly made a decision on head coach Liam Rosenior’s future following the Blues’ 3-0 loss away at Brighton, while several damning stats have emerged.
Rosenior could not help his side avoid their fifth successive Premier League defeat on Tuesday (April 21), as strikes from Ferdi Kadioglu, Jack Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck ensured Brighton leapfrogged Chelsea into sixth.
After the match, Rosenior questioned the attitude of his players, describing the torrid showing as “unacceptable” and “indefensible”.
“It was unacceptable in every aspect of the game, unacceptable in our attitude,” said Rosenior.

“I keep coming out and defending the players — that’s indefensible, that performance tonight.
“The manner of the goals we conceded, the number of duels that we lost, the lack of intensity in the team — something needs to change drastically right now.
“I think the players need to have a look in the mirror at what they put in.”
Despite his manager’s stance, Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah appeared to disagree in his post-match interview, claiming he and his team-mates “gave our all”.
“I think, personally, the boys were running their socks off,” the defender said.
Several damning stats emerged after full-time, with Chelsea setting a 114-year record, having now lost five consecutive league games without scoring. The West London club were also outrun by their opponents for the 34th time in 34 matches — no other team has been outrun more than 29 times.
The Blues now have an FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United to look forward to, although some may be dreading the prospect of facing Daniel Farke’s in-form side.
Will Liam Rosenior be sacked by Chelsea?
As reported by TEAMtalk, the club remains fully behind the Englishman even if he fails to secure Champions League qualification — something which looks highly unlikely with four matches remaining and a seven-point gap to make up.
The outlet claims Chelsea’s owners, BlueCo, are committed to Rosenior and retain faith that he is the right man to lead the project, although the dip in form remains a concern.
Intermediaries have reportedly begun putting alternatives forward should Chelsea sack Rosenior.
Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann is among the potential candidates and is highly regarded by the club’s decision-makers, although no firm offer has been made at this time.
On Monday (April 20), Rosenior said the Chelsea hierarchy were “100 per cent” behind him in spite of the negative run.
“100%. They’ve been supportive of me in our daily conversations, the sporting directors involved — they’ve been magnificent in their support of me and the team,” he said.
“We’re relying on them. We know we need to win games of football in the here and now.”
Co-owner Behdad Eghbali also claimed: “We think he can be successful long term.”
