Fans are confused by Chelsea’s position in the latest UEFA club rankings.

UEFA have released their new club coefficient standings for the 2024.25 season, with Manchester City retaining the top spot.

Coefficients are used to determine seeds in draws for UEFA club competitions, with points earned based on a weighted algorithm linked to European performances over the last four seasons, as well as domestic coefficient.

City sit top of the standings for a second straight year, while Real Madrid have moved up to second place upon claiming their 15th Champions League crown.

The top five are completed by Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Roma, who have enjoyed several deep European runs in the past few years.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain, Villarreal, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Inter complete the top ten.

Elsewhere, Manchester United come in at 14th while 2023 Conference League winners West Ham United are 16th, ahead of the likes of Atletico Madrid (17th), Barcelona (18th) and Arsenal (19th).

Fans on social media were quick to respond to Chelsea’s ranking in particular, given the club’s relatively low league finishes across the past two seasons.

A fourth said: “Chelsea ahead of Arsenal and united after no Champions League for two years is really funny.”

A fifth wrote: “Chelsea still there ahead of Arsenal.”

Elsewhere, Italian giants Napoli (21st), AC Milan (22nd) and Juventus (23rd) all sit outside the top 20 following mixed results in Europe.

Moreover, Tottenham Hotspur came in at 45th upon missing out on European football last season.
