Chelsea fans furious after spotting what Moises Caicedo did before Middlesbrough opener

Moises Caicedo was culpable for Middlesbrough's opener against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Chelsea fans were left fuming after seeing what Moises Caicedo did for Middlesbrough's opener on Tuesday evening.

Hayden Hackney gave Michael Carrick's side a surprise lead in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.

The midfielder made a late run to the box and got on the end of Isaiah Jones' cut-back to open the scoring at the Riverside Stadium.

But his task was made a lot easier by the bizarre actions of Caicedo, who Chelsea paid a British-record £115 million fee for.

The Ecuador international did not track Hackney but then for reasons that are difficult to explain, he stood and placed his hands behind his back as he watched Hackney tap home.

Chelsea fans let rip on social media after the poor passage of play from the midfielder.

One said: "Caicedo watching an unmarked runner in the box."

A second commented: "What is Caicedo doing. Just stops following his runner and puts his hands behind his back."

A third said: "See £115m Caicedo losing his man while standing with his hands behind him instead of going for the ball."

A fourth fumed: "Why are we not tracking his run??? Is that Caicedo?"

Another user simply added: "LOOK AT CAICEDO."

A final fan weighed in: "Caicedo just allows the running to go, poor!"

Chelsea supporters were already angry going into the match after comments from manager Mauricio Pochettino, who said his team should not feel like it is "compulsory" to be in the final.

“The most important thing is we need to enjoy the semi-final, not to feel like it’s compulsory for us to be in the final,” he said in his presser, as per The Independent.

“Football is not about that. You cannot play if you feel pressure and you don’t feel fresh in your mind.

“If you feel it’s compulsory (to win), always with some restriction – you need to take the semi-final as a great opportunity to enjoy playing football, performing well, running, being aggressive, being all together. Not to feel it’s compulsory to go to the final."

Many blasted the Argentine and stressed that the remarks would not have been acceptable when Roman Abramovich was at the helm.
