A former Chelsea player has been placed on 'sick leave' after being attacked by his own fans in a shocking incident.
Ligue 1 side Nice suffered a crushing 3-1 defeat to Lorient on Sunday and the result didn't go down well among their fans.
Hundreds of angry Nice supporters confronted the team bus when it arrived back at the club's training ground on Sunday night following their defeat.
It was their sixth straight loss across all competitions, with their latest setback leaving them in 10th in the table. They are also bottom of the Europa League standings, having lost all five of their European fixtures this season.

After their defeat to Lorient, around 400 Nice fans gathered at the club's training ground after they had flown back to the city's airport.
They congregated at the entrance to the training ground, where the players' cars were park, preventing the bus from getting in.

According to The Athletic, some players were physically assaulted, including ex-Chelsea player Jeremie Boga, who graduated from the club's youth academy before making one Premier League appearance.

Fans targeted Boga, as well as Terem Moffi, not to mention sporting director Florian Maurice.
The 28-year-old angered Nice fans after he was forced to apologise for inviting a number of Marseille fans into the Allianz Riviera for their 5-1 defeat last month.
In a post on social media, he wrote: "At no time, believe me, was it my intention to show disrespect toward Nice supporters. I do not condone the mocking or the lack of respect toward OGC Nice either. However, I understand the disappointment this may have caused. To all those I may have hurt, I offer my apologies."

French outlet RMC Sport claim Boga was spat on, punched and kicked in the body and groin and subjected to insults - some of which were racist.
Security was overwhelmed and the targeted men struggled to escape the ambush.
Nice goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf eventually rescued Boga, pulling him to safety.
The Ivory Coast international has subsequently been placed on sick leave after being attacked by Nice fans, per the report.
