Ronald Araujo has spoken out after Barcelona fans called for him to be sold following the Champions League loss to Inter Milan.

A thrilling 7-6 semi-final saw Barcelona drop out of the Champions League after losing to an impressive inter Milan side across two legs.

While several players across the two teams stood out for their fantastic performances in the tie, Barcelona fans hit out at Araujo as they claimed he stood out for all the wrong reasons.

But Arajuo has hit back, as he spoke with media immediately after Tuesday's match to address Barcelona fans who were angry with his performance.

After being named on the bench for the second leg against Inter, Araujo came on to replace fellow defender Inigo Martinez in the 76th minute of the match.

Unfortunately for the Uruguayan, his mistakes ultimately cost Barcelona the game as he failed to mark Francesco Acerbi before he scored Inter's equaliser, and he also was responsible for Marcus Thuram being able to turn and set up the play for Fratessi's winning goal.

Some fans were so outraged by Araujo's mistakes that they have called for him to be sold in the upcoming transfer window, but the defender appeared to be pretty laid back as he explained what caused the goal.

Speaking post-match to Catalan radio station RAC1, via Barca Blaugranes, Auajo said: “On the fourth goal, I was in front and it was the striker’s luck to place it perfectly in the corner.

“As for the third goal, I’m obviously very good at one-on-ones and I should have been better.

“But in the end, it’s football, if you cover well, you can also keep those balls at bay. But hey, it’s football, you have to keep your head up and keep moving forward.”

Despite being named as the club's co-captain and being an important player in previous seasons, Araujo appears to have fallen out of favour after returning from a hamstring injury that sidelined him for 147 days.

Although he has been handed some starts in La Liga recently, Araujo was named on the bench for both legs of the Champions League tie with Inter Milan and the Copa del Rey final against rivals Real Madrid.

In total, Araujo has made 23 appearances for Barcelona this season, averaging 62 minutes per appearance.
