Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards Clash as Things Get Heated Over Mo Salah

The pair exchanged views following Carragher's eight-and-a-half-minute rant about Salah on Monday Night Football.

Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards offered different points of view after the former Liverpool centre-back criticised Mohamed Salah for speaking out against Arne Slot following the Reds’ 3-3 draw against Leeds United on December 6.

As you likely already know, Salah was benched for the match against Leeds, as he was for the two matches prior, before later being left out of Liverpool’s squad for the Champions League clash against Inter on December 9.

And after the Leeds match, the Egyptian did not hold back when speaking to the media gathered inside the mixed zone and claimed that he felt he had been “thrown under the bus” with the Reds struggling this term before also claiming he and head coach Slot “don’t have a relationship” and that “someone doesn’t want me in the club”.

He also hinted that Liverpool’s Premier League match against Brighton at Anfield on December 13 could be his last for the club.

As expected, not everyone was pleased with the player’s comments, with Carragher branding them a “disgrace” when addressing the matter on Monday Night Football ahead of Manchester United’s 4-1 win against Wolves on December 8.

“I think when he stops in the mixed zone, it’s choreographed with him and his agent to cause maximum damage and strengthen his own position,” claimed the former Liverpool centre-back while speaking on Sky Sports.

Then, the topic was brought up once again, this time during CBS Sports’ coverage of the Champions League fixtures.

Carragher and former Manchester City defender Richards debated the topic as Thierry Henry and Jen Beattie watched on.

Richards suggested that Salah should have been introduced against Leeds before Carragher backed Slot’s decision and homed in on the fact Liverpool were 2-0 up at one point, meaning a defensive change would’ve been more appropriate than introducing Salah.

“Leeds come back to 2-2, the ball is in play for about three minutes before Liverpool score to make it 3-2…” Carragher said.

“There was a three-minute window between 2-2 and 3-2. You are not going to bring Mo Salah on when Liverpool are in front… he’s not going to run back for you.”

“You are talking about Mo Salah like he’s just any player… You are talking about one of the greatest players ever to grace the Premier League,” Richards snapped back.

Carragher then suggested that people aren’t looking at the context of why Salah has been benched, given the situation of the games he has been benched for.

The debate raged on with the pair continuing to disagree before Carragher finished by saying Liverpool’s poor defensive record of conceding ten goals against Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and PSV coincided with Salah being on the pitch.
