Mikel Arteta will 'consider' Arsenal exit at the end of season as Barcelona links continue

Mikel Arteta will 'consider' Arsenal exit at the end of season as Barcelona links continue

Reports claim Mikel Arteta could be leaving Arsenal at the end of the season.

Mikel Arteta will "consider" leaving Arsenal at the end of the season, sensational reports claim.

The Premier League has already been rocked by news that Jurgen Klopp will leave Liverpool at the end of the campaign.

But SPORT say that Arteta has told his entourage that he too could be departing.

The Spaniard has been Arsenal boss since December 2019 and has won one FA Cup and two Community Shields.

The former Everton and Rangers midfielder is contracted until 2025 but the report states that Arteta has told those close to him that he is contemplating ending his stint at the Emirates Stadium.

It's said his positive relationship with those at the club means he would likely be allowed to "agree on a possible consensual exit".

The decision isn't completely set in stone as there is still plenty of football to be played this season but Arsenal fans will not be enjoying the reports.

The news comes after Arteta was touted as a potential replacement for Xavi at Barcelona.

Following a 5-3 defeat to Villarreal which left the team ten points adrift of league leaders Real Madrid, the Blaugrana legend announced he will be stepping down from the post at the conclusion of the season.

Arteta, a former Barcelona youth player, was linked in October 2021 prior to Xavi's appointment at the Nou Camp.

Journalist Gerard Romero claims he is part of a three-man shortlist to replace the 44-year-old, who believes a new "dynamic" is required.

"I think the club needs a change of dynamic," Xavi said in his press conference.

"For the good of the players, I believe that they will free themselves. We play with a lot of tension.

"For the good of the board of directors, it is best that I leave. I will give my best. I think all of that will help the dynamic change.

"This is the message I would like to give. I think I am doing the right thing."
