Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has named a current Manchester United player in his 'dream' five-a-side team.

The 29-year-old, who joined the Reds from Bayern Munich last summer, chose some of his closest friends in football as he believes that would give his five-a-side team the best chemistry.

And in goal, Thiago picked David de Gea.

Alongside himself, Thiago named his brother Rafinha of Paris Saint-Germain, Leeds United striker Rodrigo, plus Jonathan dos Santos - his teammate for four years at Barcelona.

"I always say that more than the best players, I will always choose the best chemistry and the best friends I have in football," Thiago said in a Q&A on Liverpool's YouTube channel, per Metro.

"Like my brother Rafinha, Rodrigo Moreno who plays for Leeds, Jonathan Dos Santos, who is at LA Galaxy in the USA and David de Gea, goalkeeper for Man U, and myself."

"I think that's the five-a-side team I would choose."

De Dea, Thaigo's teammate with the Spanish national team, could certainly be kept busy as the outfield players comprise three attacking midfielders and one forward.

"'The only problem is somebody has to defend, but it's OK," Thiago acknowledged.

The Manchester United stopper is sometimes listed among the world's best goalkeepers, alongside Liverpool's No 1 Alisson, who may have been a more politically savvy choice. But we commend Thiago for his honesty in picking De Gea.

The playmaker was also given a tough head-to-head choice when asked to pick between two two Liverpool legends as a midfield partner: Steven Gerrard or Xabi Alonso.

'Wow,' Thiago replied. "Well, the midfield is so big, I can pick both. We can play with three midfielders.

"They were legends at this club. They were legends of football. I have massive respect for the story of Steven Gerrard in this club, changing the club as well. I'm looking forward to meeting him.

"Xabi was a friend, a teammate and a teacher for me when we were playing together at Bayern and in the national team. I like him a lot and respect him a lot as a player, as a person and now as a coach.

"They were machines and amazing football players."
