Dwight Yorke parts ways with A-League club after calling them a 'pub team'

He was only in the role for seven months.

Dwight Yorke has parted ways with A-League outfit Macarthur Bulls FC after allegedly calling them a 'pub team' during a heated post-match speech in the dressing rooms.

His departure comes following the team's 1-0 loss at the hands of Adelaide United on Friday evening.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Yorke’s scathing spray was delivered to Macarthur’s entire travelling squad, with chairman Gino Marra and CEO Sam Krslovic also present in the changing rooms.

The report suggests the former treble-winning Manchester United striker also singled out players, before referring to the entire squad as a 'pub team'.

It's understood he then took aim at the culture, professionalism and general standards across the club as well as the A-League itself.

Since the address, both parties have had a “mutual” agreement that they should go their seperate ways.

Yorke was only in the role for seven months.

“We won’t be commenting on the circumstances of the mutual agreement reached between the club and Dwight Yorke on Saturday,” Bulls chairman Marra said in a statement.

“Our focus is only on the next chapter of the club and appointing a new coach who we hope will deliver more success to our supporters. We thank Dwight for his contribution to Macarthur FC and leading the club to the 2022 Australia Cup title.”

Yorke's agent Lou Sticca also spoke on the matter, albeit briefly.

“Dwight is very proud of his time at Macarthur FC, winning the Australia Cup and qualifying for the Asian Champions League,” Sticca told the Herald.

“He has full faith that the team will go from strength to strength.”

This was Yorke’s first managerial position following his decorated playing career with Aston Villa, Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham and Sunderland.

In 2005, he was Sydney FC’s marquee signing, arguably becoming the biggest name to play in the A-League at the time.
