Non-league side make 'official approach' to sign Cristiano Ronaldo after Man United exit, offer him £35-per-week wages

Ashton United have ruled out a move for Cristiano Ronaldo, but another non-league side is eyeing up the former Manchester United star.

A non-league side has made an audacious approach to sign Cristiano Ronaldo after his contract with Manchester United was mutually terminated.

United on Tuesday issued a club statement to confirm that the 37-year-old Ronaldo would leave Old Trafford with “immediate effect.”

Ronaldo launched a scathing attack on United owners the Glazers in an explosive interview with Piers Morgan, as well as criticising Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who is now a free agent, has linked up with his Portugal teammates ahead of their World Cup opener against Ghana on Thursday.

Following his appearance in his fifth World Cup tournament, Ronaldo will be on the hunt for a new club and boyhood side Sporting CP are the favourites to re-sign him.

However, non-league side AFC Crewe has pounced on the news of Ronaldo’s exit from Old Trafford and confirmed they have made an “official approach.”

AFC Crewe are prepared to offer up a one-year deal for Ronaldo and are ready to make him their highest-paid player with £35-per-week wages.

“We can confirm that the club has made an official approach to sign free agent Cristiano Ronaldo @Cristiano [sic] on a one-year deal,” the club tweeted.

“Should Cristiano accept the offer, he would become AFC Crewe’s highest-paid player, taking home £35 per week.”

Ashton United, on the other hand, hilariously took to Twitter to distance themselves over a potential move for former United superstar Ronaldo.

The non-League side grabbed major headlines last week after approaching Manchester City with a 28-day loan offer for star striker Erling Haaland.

“Despite reports on social media, [Ashton United] can confirm that no approach has or will be made for Cristiano Ronaldo following his release from [Man United],” Ashton United tweeted.

“The club will be making no further comment.”

Ronaldo broke his silence after his Old Trafford exit and insisted that now was the “right time to seek a new challenge,” as well as expressing his love for United and the fans.

“Following talks with Manchester United, we’ve mutually agreed to end our contract,” reads the statement.

“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change.

“It feels like the right time to seek a new challenge. I wish Man Utd all the best.”
