A video of Cristiano Ronaldo's reaction to Monday night's opener against Liverpool titled: 'He just wants the old Manchester United back' has picked up 1.2 million views.

The 37-year-old forward, who continues to be linked with a move away from Old Trafford, was sat in the stands when Jadon Sancho put United ahead with a composed finish.

After being left out by Erik ten Hag on Monday night, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner was sat next to Anthony Martial and Fred when the team capped off a strong start by making it 1-0.

Ronaldo must have been frustrated by Ten Hag's decision to leave him out of Monday's starting XI, but that didn't show on the Old Trafford bench. You can see his reaction in full below.

In the past, some have accused the Manchester United forward of not caring about the club he originally joined back in 2003. Some might change their stance after seeing the above clip.

Here's how social media reacted to Ronaldo's reaction.

One fan said: "Yet still the one who gets criticized for wanting standards. He grew up in Manchester literally. Says a lot itself," while another wrote: "First one recognising the chance and clapping the goal. Doesn't seem like a bad teammate to me."

A third commented: :Ronaldo was never the problem. Too many average players thinking they're good. Man just wants to win."

Ronaldo eventually managed to get some game time when he replaced goalscorer Marcus Rashford with 10 minutes remaining.

After the full-time whistle, Erik ten Hag insisted that the 37-year-old still has an important role to play at Manchester United, despite his cameo appearance against Liverpool.

When asked about Ronaldo and captain Harry Maguire – another player who was dropped for the game – during his post-match press conference, Ten Hag said: "The demand is for everyone, including the manager.

"We have to deliver. You have an obligation to the club, to the fans. This is a massive club with a huge fanbase, and we have to deliver that.

"We have to act as a team, and every individual, every day, has to give their best. That is the demand for the manager and also for the team."

Earlier this month, Ronaldo claimed 'the truth' about his future will be revealed in the coming weeks before suggesting the media is 'telling lies'.

“They know the truth when they interview in a couple weeks," he said on Instagram when replying to a fan page.

"The media is telling lies. I have a notebook and in the last few months of the 100 news I made, only 5 were right. Imagine how it is. Stick with that tip.”

Ronaldo's former teammate Gary Neville responded to those comments, saying on Twitter: “Why does the greatest player of all time (in my opinion) have to wait two weeks to tell Manchester United fans the truth?

“Stand up now and speak. The club is in crisis and it needs leaders to lead. He’s the only one who can grab this situation by the scruff of the neck!”
