Cristiano Ronaldo has been banned for two matches and was handed a £50,000 fine by the Football Association for knocking a fan’s mobile phone to the ground.

Back in April, the then Manchester United player was charged with ‘improper and/or violent conduct’ after he appeared to swipe a fan’s phone to the ground after his side’s match against Everton at Goodison Park.

The FA announced Ronaldo’s punishment on Wednesday, whilst providing a full written explanation for sanctioning the 37-year-old.

The ban will mean that if Ronaldo signs for another Premier League club, he will be banned for two matches.

On Tuesday evening, it was confirmed that Ronaldo and United have mutually agreed to terminate the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s contract after his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

During the interview, Ronaldo blasted the club, former manager Ralf Rangnick, current boss Erik ten Hag and also took aim at former teammates Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville.

A statement from United read: “Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect.

“The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances and wishes him and his family well for the future.

“Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch.”

Ronaldo then released a statement of his own, which said: “Following conversations with Manchester United we have mutually agreed to end our contract early.

“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge.

“I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.”

Ronaldo is currently in Qatar as he gears up to lead Portugal in the World Cup.

Which club will Ronaldo sign for next? Only time will tell.
