Cristiano Ronaldo tries to showboat during Al Nassr training session and it spectacularly backfires, fans call it 'embarrassing'

"Vicariously embarrassed." Cristiano Ronaldo's efforts to wow the Al Nassr fans at Mrsool Park didn't happen the way he probably planned.

A showboating Cristiano Ronaldo was left red-faced after he failed to pull off his skill move during his training session with Al Nassr at Mrsool Park on Tuesday.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner landed at the King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Monday with his family ahead of his medical with Al Nassr.

Ronaldo, who is under contract until 2025, passed his medical with Al Nassr before attending his first press conference for the Saudi Arabian club on Tuesday.

Following the press conference, Ronaldo took to the pitch at Al Nassr’s Mrsool Park as he received a spine-tingling reception from fans inside the stadium.

The 37-year-old Portuguese forward participated in shooting drills with his new Al Nassr teammates and showed he hadn’t lost his touch with one finish he produced.

However, the same can’t be said for when Ronaldo darted into the box to meet a low cross and opted to showboat for the Al Nassr fans.

Footage made the rounds on social media (watch it above in the video player) of what appears to be Ronaldo attempting a fancy backheel finish but missing the target entirely.

Posting in response to the footage, one fan said: “No way they’re benching Vincent Aboubakar for him.”

Someone else simply added: “Vicariously embarrassed.”

Another Twitter user commented: “That’s hella sad, to be honest.”

“Not even a day in that league and the fail comps already up,” a fourth fan wrote.

While a fifth tweeted: “I’ll never [forget] I went to the first pre-season [Manchester United] game when he came back. Did the same trick and missed just the same.”

Ronaldo could be in contention to make his Al Nassr debut on Thursday as Rudi Garcia’s men host Al Ta’ee at Mrsool Park.

The former Manchester United and Juventus star insisted that his contract situation is “unique” after Al Nassr tabled an eye-watering deal to lure him to Saudi Arabia.

Speaking at his press conference, he said: “I’m a unique player. I beat all the records there. I want to beat a few records here.

“This contract is unique but I’m a unique player, so for me it’s normal. I really don’t worry about what people say.

“I am really, really happy to be here. I know the league is very competitive, I saw many games […] I’m ready to keep playing football.”
