Man Utd fans fear key transfer target has priced himself out of Old Trafford move

Manchester United fans fear Cody Gakpo could be pricing himself out of a price to Old Trafford because of his incredible form at the World Cup.

The Netherlands international, who has been linked with United since the summer, has been scintillating to watch in Qatar.

He scored his third goal of the tournament in Tuesday's match against host nation Qatar.

The PSV forward has now scored in all three group games for the Netherlands, fuelling speculation he is in line for a big-money move in January.

Gakpo has confirmed that he held talks with United boss Erik ten Hag during the summer and was disappointed when a move to Old Trafford failed to materialise.

What have the fans been saying?

United supporters are concerned that Gakpo's price-tag could sky-rocket if he continues to impress at the World Cup.

United supporter Mark Goldbridge tweeted: "Gakpo price keeps going up..."

Another fan wrote: "We need to sign Gakpo before he wins the golden boot, his price is going to go through the roof."

"#MUFC I feel like Cody Gakpo just priced himself out of our reach. 3 goals, 3 games. Damn it," added another.

While a fourth tweeted: "SIGN GAKPO BEFORE HIS PRICE GOES THROUGH THE ROOF."

What else has Gakpo said about a move?

Gakpo has previously expressed his disappointment that a move to United failed to happen in the summer transfer window.

"In the end the deal didn’t go through, which was a shame, for me and my development, and because Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world, but also for PSV, because to transfer a player to Manchester United is a good thing for the club," Gakpo said.

"It ended about a week before the end of the transfer window and in that week I had to decide if I would go to Leeds or Southampton.
