Man Utd decide to move for World Cup star after Lewis Hall transfer update

Manchester United may consider a Premier League player as an alternative to Lewis Hall if they fail to sign the Newcastle United left-back this summer.

Despite already signing Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Karl Darlow this summer, United are looking to further bolster both the strength and depth of their squad ahead of what promises to be a hectic season, which will see the 20-time champions compete on four fronts: the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

United would ideally like to sign a midfielder, a striker and a left-back, with Hall viewed as the priority target to compete with Luke Shaw.

The 21-year-old is under contract at St James' Park until 2029, having arrived from Chelsea in 2024.

The England international has since become a mainstay under Eddie Howe, featuring 30 times in the Premier League last term while also making 10 appearances in the Champions League.

United have made their intentions clear, but a deal may prove difficult to reach given Newcastle have already sold key players Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon this summer, with Bruno Guimarães nearing a move to Arsenal, meaning they do not have to cash in on Hall.

As a result, according to talkSPORT, United could turn their focus to signing Fulham and United States left-back Antonee Robinson if they are unable to land Hall.

Robinson, who came through Everton's academy, is under contract at Craven Cottage until June 2028 and boasts much-needed Premier League experience, having made 158 top-flight appearances.

The full-back also played an integral part in the USA's World Cup campaign, featuring four times as the co-hosts reached the round of 16.

Speaking on talkSPORT about United's search for a left-back, Alex Crook said:

"We're told they're willing to pay up to £60million to prise Hall away from the North East.

"But having already made £70million for Gordon, £100million for Tonali and now £75million for Guimarães, there's no real financial pressure on Newcastle.

"And you wonder if the hierarchy there might see this Lewis Hall situation as a chance to make a statement - 'The shop window is closed, we're not selling any more of our star players'."

Turning his attention to Robinson, he added: "Keep an eye on Fulham's Antonee Robinson, the USA international.

"The experienced Premier League campaigner would probably come a lot cheaper than Lewis Hall. He's someone I'm told is on Manchester United's radar as well."

It is unclear if Fulham are willing to part ways with Robinson this summer.

United get their Premier League campaign underway away at newly promoted Hull on August 22.
