Chelsea beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 on aggregate.

Chelsea have booked their place in the Champions League quarter-finals after beating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 on aggregate.

The Blues trailed the Bundesliga club 1-0 from last month's first-leg clash following Karim Adeyemi's sensational solo goal.

But Chelsea managed to turn the tie around after winning the second-leg showdown at Stamford Bridge 2-0 on Tuesday.

Raheem Sterling opened the scoring after lashing home from close range just before the break.

The hosts then doubled their lead in controversial fashion when Kai Havertz slotted a penalty in the 53rd minute.

Marius Wolf was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box following a VAR review.

Match referee Danny Makkelie pointed to the spot, but Havertz wasn't able to take advantage as he hit the post.

However, the penalty was retaken after Dortmund players were adjudged to have encroached.

Chelsea's German star made no mistake the second time around, sending Alexander Meyer the wrong way to make it 2-0 on the night.

Graham Potter's side will be in the hat for the Champions League quarter-final draw.

Speaking after the final whistle, Sterling said: "A massive performance, we had to dig deep. We took our chances. Recently we hadn't taken our chances but tonight we did it . Kai did it.

"[The goal came from] a little miskick with my first touch but then it landed perfectly and allowed us to build on that performance."

It's now back-to-back wins for Chelsea, who returned to winning ways in the Premier League after beating Leeds United 1-0 last weekend.

Potter has been under intense scrutiny following his side's recent wretched form, but he still has a chance to deliver silverware for the club this season.
