Fans in disbelief after Casemiro avoids punishment for wiping out Jacob Ramsey

Referee Jarred Gillett decided against handing Man Utd midfielder Casemiro a card after the challenge.

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro was lucky to avoid a booking, or possibly even a red card, in the 21st minute of Sunday's 1-0 win over Aston Villa.

Erik ten Hag's side managed to bounce back from a disappointing defeat to Spurs in mid-week thanks to a first-half goal from Bruno Fernandes.

It was, however, a far-from-straightforward victory against Unai Emery's side, who have been in fantastic form of late.

In fact, things could have been far more challenging for the home side if referee Jarred Gillett decided to punish Casemiro for a late challenge on Villa's Jacob Ramsey in the opening stages.

As you can see from the below footage, Casemiro avoided a card after taking Ramsey out with a rash tackle.

The Brazilian midfielder, who has already missed a handful of games this season following two red cards against Crystal Palace and Southampton, protested his innocence almost immediately.

And to the surprise of some supporters, he managed to get away with it. What do you think?

Not even a yellow yet United fans cry about the agenda against Casemiro every week 😭pic.twitter.com/Po6je9dA03

Here's how fans on social media reacted to the incident.

One said: "I’m still struggling to see how Casemiro didn’t get booked for this?" while another commented: "It was a disgusting malicious tackle where his intent was to stop play. As blatant a yellow card as you'll ever see."

A third wrote: "Someone somewhere explain how this isn’t a booking (a red)," and a fourth said: "This was a blatant yellow. I was surprised he wasn’t booked. He hasn’t learnt anything with this lunging into tackles it seems."

A fifth added: "Clear red."

Casemiro has certainly been one of United's standout performers since making his much-talked about £70 million summer move from Real Madrid.

In total, he has played 43 times in all competitions under Erik ten Hag and according to WhoScored, the 31-year-old has made a tackle every 23.8 minutes in England's top flight this season – the second highest in the league.

But many feel he got away with one on Sunday after the above challenge on Ramsey. What do you think? Was it a booking, or even a red?

Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
