Liverpool are set to make a move for Aberdeen left-back Calvin Ramsay after an impressive breakthrough season for the youngster in the SPFL.

Express Sport report the full-back will be available for purchase this summer for as little as £3.5 million. What sort of role Ramsay would fulfil at Liverpool next season is not yet clear, with Jürgen Klopp satisfied with the performance of Kostas Tsimikas as Andy Robertson’s understudy last season.

Thus, an immediate loan move could be on the cards for the 18-year-old. The Scottish defender only racked up 24 appearances in the Scottish Premiership, so Liverpool might fancy handing him a bit more experience in senior football before trusting him to provide true competition for Andy Robertson.

Liverpool aren’t the only club interested in acquiring Ramsay’s services. Jesse Marsch’s Leeds United are also pursuing the youngster this summer, and the promise of more first-team football at Leeds amid Junior Firpo’s underwhelming debut Premier League campaign could tempt Ramsay into opting to join Leeds instead.

The transfer rumour aligns with Liverpool’s drive to sign more young players this summer. Jürgen Klopp does have something of an ageing squad on his hands, so the likes of Jude Bellingham, Gavi, and Darwin Nuñez are said to be of the Reds’ interest. Signing such players would help to freshen up Klopp’s brilliant Liverpool side.

Chasing another young and cheap Scottish full-back will bring back Liverpool fans fond memories. Andy Robertson was brought to Liverpool in a similar vein in 2017, joining the Merseyside club from Hull City for just £8 million. Klopp will hope to unearth another Scottish star in Ramsay.

Left-back is not an area Liverpool particularly need to address this summer but the club clearly see something in Calvin Ramsay. It is not easy to replace players of the calibre of Andy Robertson so Reds fans will be pleased to see the club planning ahead with their pursuit of the young Ramsay.
