Arsenal star reveals he's been playing with a broken bone since the World Cup

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has revealed he's been playing with a broken knuckle ever since the World Cup.

The 24-year-old has been in brilliant form for Mikel Arteta's side this season, playing a key part in their ascent to the top of the Premier League table.

Ramsdale was selected for England's World Cup squad, but was unable to make an appearance, with Jordan Pickford remaining Gareth Southgate's first choice between the sticks.

But since returning from Qatar, the former Sheffield United keeper confessed he had been playing with specially made gloves due to a broken knuckle.

Ramsdale requires special gloves

Speaking on The Fellas podcast, Ramsdale said: "I’ll tell you something about those gloves, if you look at the two middle fingers there’s no gap.

"I broke my knuckle at the World Cup, so I’ve had to play, since the World Cup, with gloves like that."

Ramsdale also offered his opinion on new £27million signing Leandro Trossard, believing that the winger is aiming to secure a starting role as soon as possible.

"Trossard is coming in to take someone’s place in his head. It might look like he is coming to be part of the squad, but deep down like I was with [Bernd] Leno," Ramsdale said.

"Like I’ve come to take Leno’s pace, he’s coming to take one of the front three player’s place.

"So if you start saying, ‘oh by the way we’ve signed Trossard’ before it happens, one of them front three might go, ‘hang on a minute’."

The Gunners face Manchester City in the FA Cup last 16 on Friday, with the Premier League's first and second place up against each other for the first time this season.

The North London side will be hoping for a repeat of the 2019/2020 semi-final, where they ran away 2-0 winners against Pep Guardiola's men, before going on to beat Chelsea in the final.
