Oscar Piastri shocked everyone by asking something no other driver has ever done during the the British Grand Prix.

An exciting and dramatic British Grand Prix saw McLaren star Lando Norris claim his first home win ahead of teammate Piastri and Kick Sauber's Nico Hulkenberg, who finally ended his long-running record as the F1 driver with most races without a podium finish.

After he managed an early overtake on pole sitter Max Verstappen, Piastri established himself as the favourite to win early in the race, but his hopes of doing so fell apart after he was handed a controversial 10 second penalty.

The Australian was judged to have slowed down too drastically after the safety car peeled away on lap 21 of the race, nearly causing a collision with Verstappen.

This penalty ultimately ended Piastri's chances of winning the race, and he made his feelings about it clear while speaking on the team radio to ask a question that no driver has ever done before.

Immediately after the penalty was confirmed, McLaren made it clear that they felt that it was unfair and that Piastri had been ruled out of a chance to win for no reason.

And so Piastri, calling his team's bluff, decided to go onto his team radio to ask them to give a team order to Norris, telling him to let his teammate through to rectify to unfair penalty.

Of course, McLaren shut down this idea, but analyst Peter Windsor believes that such a question from Piastri deserves praise, as he was willing to ask a question no other driver would dare.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Windsor said: "Oscar got on the radio and quite surprisingly and I think quite intelligently said that whole thing with the safety car was ridiculous, we should be basically appealing that, we should reverse positions now on that basis and then race to the finish.

"Which I can't remember any driver ever saying that and you've got to give him full marks for thinking laterally there and he was the quicker driver over the weekend for McLaren and there he is being super aggressive on the radio about something like that and of course had they not decided to serve that 10-second penalty in Oscar's pit stop and waited till the end of the race."

What has Piastri said about the penalty?

Speaking to Jenson Button on Sky Sports directly after the race, Piastri was clearly frustrated to have missed out on the win due to the penalty.

"Yeah, I'm not gonna say much. I'll get myself in trouble, so... well done, to Hulkenberg. I think that's the highlight of the day, so... yeah, I'll leave it there," Piastri said, clearly holding back his true feelings.

"Yeah, I mean, apparently you can't brake behind the safety car anymore. I mean, I did it for five laps before that and... again, I'm not gonna say too much 'cause I'll get myself in trouble.

"But thanks to the crowd for a great event. Thanks for sticking through the weather. I still like Silverstone, even if I don't like it today - so thanks for coming out."
