Lando Norris' has spoken about his McLaren set up ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix on the back of the FIA's latest rule change.

After winning the first race of the 2025 Formula 1 season in Australia last weekend, Norris looks likely to be the man to beat at the upcoming Chinese Grand Prix.

However, ahead of the race weekend, the sport's governing body, the FIA, announced a sudden rule change in relation to rear wings.

Stricter limits have been issued on the slot gap between the two rear wing panels.

While there could previously be a gap of 2mm between both, that has now been reduced to 0.5mm (0.75mm in China) after the FIA reviewed footage from the Australian Grand Prix.

The likes of Ferrari and McLaren have previously been accused of pushing the limits when it comes to rear-wing flexibility.

However, McLaren are adamant that their rear wing is fine and will not be making any changes.

When quizzed on the matter on Thursday, Norris claimed that his team's rear wing is actually 'too good' and they are not pushing the limits enough.

Norris said: "Nope, we don't have to change anything. Ours is fine. In fact, ours is probably too good and we probably are not pushing the limits enough honestly.

"If this technical directive was applied for last weekend we'd also be fine so it's not directed at us it seems."

He added: "It's directed at other teams, which probably means we need to push it even more."

Meanwhile, Mercedes driver George Russell has also downplayed Mercedes' involvement in the controversial matter.

He said: "It’s not going to change anything from our side. I don’t know who the TD was introduced for but I’m pretty confident it wasn’t us or Red Bull.

"But I’m also confident for the teams it’s going to hurt it’s not going to hurt them enough that it will have any sort of impact on the result."
