Red Bull could be forced to hand Christian Horner a massive payout after deciding to part ways with the Englishman.
It was confirmed on Wednesday morning that Horner has been removed from his role as team principal and CEO.
In turn, Red Bull confirmed that Laurent Mekies will take over after being promoted from sister team Visa Cash App Racing Bulls.
Meanwhile, Alan Permane will replace Mekies at VCARB ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, which will take place at the end of July.

Horner first joined the Red Bull Racing team back in 2005 and led the team to six constructors' championships and eight drivers' world titles.
During his reign, Horner led Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen to four world titles each from 2010-2013 and 2021-2024, respectively.
After one of the longest team principal reigns in Formula 1 history came to a close, Red Bull could now be forced to hand Horner a big payout.

Normally, when someone is sacked from a role, they would receive a payout, often as compensation, and the amount is usually their wage for the remainder of the contract.
As reported by Planet F1, Horner's contract with Red Bull was due to expire in 2030.
In addition, it was previously claimed that Horner's salary rose from £8.04 million in 2022 to £8.92 million in 2023.

With more than four years left of his contract, Horner could be set to receive as much as £35.68 million.
However, nothing has been confirmed from Red Bull and this is currently just speculation.
In a statement, Red Bull said: "After 20 years with the Team, Christian Horner departs Oracle Red Bull Racing as Team Principal and CEO. We thank him for his tireless and exceptional work. He has been instrumental in building this Team into one of the most successful in F1, with eight Drivers' Championships and six Constructors' Championships.
